What is the SAC Tech Store?

The SAC Tech store is a one-stop shop for all technology needs. Students, faculty and staff of the Alamo Colleges can purchase computer equipment at an educational discount. As well, the store sells computer and tech accessories, offers a variety services, and provides on-going workshops to showcase new technology.

 

Where are you located?

The SAC Tech Store is located on the SAC Campus at 1515 N. Main Avenue, San Antonio, Texas 78212. It is adjacent to the Duran Welcome Center (DWC) which is located on the corner of N. Main and W. Park Ave.

 

Where do I park when I come to the SAC Tech Store?

There is retail parking available on the first floor of the Tobin Parking Garage, located directly behind the SAC Tech Store.

 

Who is eligible to shop at the SAC Tech Store?

Faculty, staff and students with a valid Alamo Colleges ID are eligible to purchase computer equipment and/or services offered at the SAC Tech Store. Community members can participate in on-going workshops, get tech-related service, and purchase computer accessories and general merchandise.

 

What types of products are for sale?

Currently, the SAC Tech Store offers a variety of products from Apple and DELL, including laptops and tablets. In the future, HP products will also be available for purchase.

 

For student purchases, do you offer specific hardware specifications?

Please review the “Shop By Institute” link on the website or pick up the informational pamphlet at the store to view computer recommendations.  We are also happy to discuss options at the store.

 

Can institutional purchases be made at the store?

Yes. The Office of Technology Services approves all institutional purchases for San Antonio College. As well, beginning Fall 2017, all Apple products for the Alamo Colleges must be purchased through the SAC Tech Store.

 

Are there limitations on the number of computer purchases?

Yes, due to contractual agreements, employees and students can purchase up to one Apple desktop and one Apple laptop per academic year.

 

Is the SAC Tech Store open to the public?

Yes, the SAC Tech Store is open to the public; however, only faculty, staff and students with a valid Alamo Colleges ID are eligible to purchase computer equipment. Community members can participate in on-going workshops, get tech-related service, and purchase computer accessories and general merchandise.

 

Can a parent or family member make a purchase on my behalf?

No. Parents/family members can accompany a student when making a purchase; however, the student or employee must be present (with a valid Alamo Colleges ID) at the time of purchase.

 

What methods of payment are accepted?

We accept American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover cards with a valid driver’s license and an Alamo Colleges Student ID. Cash and check are not accepted at this time.

 

Are payment plans available?

Not at this time. All transactions must be paid in full at the time of purchase.

 

Can I charge my payment to my Bursar's account?

Not at this time. All transactions must be paid in full at the time of purchase.

 

Do I have to pay sales tax since I am a student?

Yes. All personal purchases are assessed the standard sales tax of 8.25%. There is no charge for sales tax on institutional purchases.

 

Are there Trade-In options available?

Not at this time. However, this option will be coming soon. Please continue to check the Trade In page on our website for updates.

 

Can I purchase third party Warranty services?

Yes, you can obtain extended coverage and protection through Safeware, Inc.

 

Who are the Tech Rangers?

The Tech Rangers are certified technicians working at the SAC Tech Store and are available to service warranty and non-warranty equipment.

 

What do I do if I work at the Alamo Colleges and my computer has stopped working?

The first step for employees who are having computer issues is to contact their campus IT department.  At SAC, you can contact the OTS Help Desk at 210-486-0777 or sac-helpdesk@alamo.edu. You may also submit a work order on Footprints.

 

Can I configure my computer before purchasing?

Yes. If one of the computers in stock does not meet your needs, we can create a special order for you. Special orders must be prepaid and are non-refundable. They will be ordered and shipped to the SAC Tech Store. You will be notified when the order is ready for pick-up.

 

Can I make purchases online?

Yes. You can purchase equipment online and pick up the equipment from the store.

 

What types of accessories are for sale?

Many Apple and third party accessories are in stock at the SAC Tech Store, including: laptop chargers, iPhone and iPad adapters, laptop sleeves, cables, speakers, headphones, and more.

 

Can I check out a loaner laptop from the SAC Tech Store?

The SAC Tech Store does not offer loaner laptops. SAC students can check out a loaner laptop from the Office of Technology Services Service Center, located at the Moody Learning Center, 7th Floor, Room 710.

 

Does the store offer technology workshops?

Yes. Every month the SAC Tech Store offers several short workshops for employees, students, and community members. The workshops are free of charge. Check out the list of available workshops online by clicking the Training link on the SAC Tech Store website.

 

Can I use my Financial Aid at the SAC Tech Store?

Not at this time. All transactions must be paid in full at the time of purchase.

 

As an employee, am I eligible for payroll deduction plan?

Not at this time. All transactions must be paid in full at the time of purchase.

 

Can I return or exchange products to the SAC Tech Store?

Please see the Return Policy page for information regarding returns or exchanges.
